Japan, December 31, 2019 – JinkoSolar Holding Co., Ltd. (the “Company,” or “JinkoSolar”) (NYSE: JKS), one of the largest and most innovative solar module manufacturers in the world, today announced that the company has provided its high efficient mono panels to build a 25-megawatt solar plant on an old golf course in the Gunma Prefecture. It would sell electricity to a local utility when it starts its operation, which is enough to provide equivalent power for approximately 10,000 average households.

Japan’s energy strategy in the aftermath of Fukushima calls for roughly doubling the amount of renewable power sources in the country by 2030. Meanwhile, Japan has limited land space. There are two ways to solve this bottleneck of developing solar energy. One is shifting from deploying low efficiency panel to higher one, the other is reuse and repurpose land. In Japan, too many golf courses have been built. Inevitably, now the nation faces the question of what to do with its abandoned golf courses.
